Rural electrification in Tanzania

Many
healthcare programmes are focused on improving
healthcare delivery services and sustainability of key
interventions in family planning/reproductive health,
child survival/nutrition and HIV/AIDS-STI awareness and
prevention, and to improve community involvement and use
of these programs. These programs are focused on
building capacities of healthcare centres to enable them
provide high quality healthcare services and syndromic
treatment services.

Taking solar electric systems to
rural schools, leads to two fold advantages: (i) use of
solar lighting systems - solar lanterns - for night
preps and (ii) use of modern infrastructure and teaching
aid facilities e.g., computers, audio-visual, possible
connection to e-mail services etc.

Supplying PV systems for
healthcare centres and local schools is one way in
relieving of poverty. Access to health care should be
improved in remote areas by supplying clean and
sustainable PV energy for refrigerators. Refrigerators
are used in the prevention and control work of endemic
diseases. Lights in the health centres are important
when extending the accessibility of health services
during evening and night time. Extended services with
electrical water pumps will raise the public awareness,
increase the capacity building and giving time for
training of health care personnel. The education
quality, resource availability, allocation and
utilization in the education system can be improved by
supplying PV-electricity to rural schools
